EYFS
Welcome to EYFS at Broadstone Hall
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework for learning, development and care for children from birth to five. At Broadstone Hall the Foundation Stage consists of four classes; a Nursery class (FS1) for children aged 3-4 years and three Reception class (FS2) for children aged 4-5 years. It is organised into 7 areas of learning;
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Physical Development
• Communication and Language
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding of the World
• Expressive Arts and Design
Each of these areas of learning has a number of learning “goals” which establish expectations for most children to reach by the end of the stage. These goals provide the basis for long-term planning throughout the Foundation Stage, so laying secure foundations for future learning. By the beginning of Year 1, some children will have met these goals. Other children will be working towards some, or all, of these goals. All children learn at their own rates and we pride ourselves on knowing your children’s next steps extremely well.
Our Curriculum
Our curriculum is based around core high quality texts, narrative immersion through the Magic Story Box Approach and is centred around play, play, play! Play gives our children a wealth of opportunities to experience and embed learning opportunities that formal teaching simply cannot offer. We offer a balanced mix of adult led teaching and continuous provision. Classrooms are set up into different areas to allow children to select what they want to learn and access resources independently or supported by an adult through high quality interactions. A large part of the school day is spent playing…inside and out.
