The school council is a great way to give your views to the school. We have used many of your ideas, which have come through the School Council . Talk to your Council Reps about your ideas and they will take them to the next meeting.

What can you write for our school website?
Think about the following:

  • What do you enjoy at school?
  • Did you really enjoy a lesson or a club activity?
  • Has someone been really kind to you?
  • Have you any great ideas to improve the school?
  • Write them down and they will be put on the website for all your friends and family to see.

MY RUN FOR SPORT RELIEF
By Amelie - Year 3

On Sunday 21st March 2010 I went to Woodbank Park in Stockport to do a run for Sport Relief.
I did the run with my Dad and my sister Harriet. I felt excited because I was going to be running with lots of other people. We were all wearing our Sport Relief socks, and had our run number attached to our tops. Some people were dressed up in fancy dress, and some people were doing a three-legged race.
When they blew the starting horn I was nervous because of the people crowding around us, but once I was running I felt like grinning, especially when I could hear my Mum cheering me on from miles away.
Each lap of the circuit was one mile. Harriet and I ran two miles, and my Dad ran three.
At the end of the race we got a medal and a goody bag with a drink and sweets inside. I felt really proud when I at last finished the race.
I raised £40 and Harriet rose about the same. Our money will go to help other people less fortunate than ourselves.

Thank you to all our friends & family who sponsored us.

Meet Stewart
Stewart is a sports coach at dinnertime, there are plenty more of them but Stewart particularly gets us playing sports. He is great fun and gets along extremely well with all of the children here at Broadstone Hall. We think that sports coaches are a great idea because it keeps us healthy and lets us play some sports that not all of the children get the opportunity to play.
Elliot said, “Stewart encouraged me to play cricket even though I wasn’t that good, I have really improved on my skills at cricket and enjoy it more.”

Red Nose Day Special!!
As for this year on Red Nose Day we tried to raise money coming in as a sportsperson or in sportswear. We had lots of different and wacky outfits from Basketball players to Swimmers and gymnasts. We raised a staggering £312.64 well done and thank you to everyone who participated. Up to now the actual people from Comic Relief 2009 have raised a whopping £59, 187, and 065. As for the Kilimanjaro climb the altitude sickness got the better of celebrities Cheryl Cole and Fern Cotton.
So many people in Africa and other countries today are dieing and fighting the awful disease of malaria. This money will make a huge difference to the people and will save so many lives. Are £312.64 may have saved the lives of so many families as mosquito nets cost the small amount of £5 which can stop the disease spreading. And it’s also the same with the food to feed a family of 6 for a Falk night it would cost only £20. You may have saved the live of someone with that £1 you brought in for Red Nose Day 2009!!!

School Council
Thanks to Miss Dilger the school council is going brilliantly. They have only had several meetings but they are progressing their ideas very well.
“The school council is going excellent and I am really enjoying my new role as the chairman,” Owen Tusen told us.

We asked him how the suggestion box was going, which was kindly supplied by Vice-chairman Hannah Lamont, this is what he replied:
“Well, luckily there are no sandwiches or other unwanted items in the box but up to now we have only had a few suggestions. Thank you for them suggestions but we would like to have some more soon. Please make sure that your suggestions are realistic and we will try to make as many of them happen as we can.”

Miss Dilger would like to remind everyone that the meetings are on every two weeks at a Friday dinnertime and to put they’re suggestions in the suggestion box.

Christmas Production
Thanks to Mrs McMorrow this year we had a very successful Christmas play preformed by the drama production. We had a gigantic cast and the dress rehearsal went great and we had a fantastic turn-out on the night. We loved dressing up as different and unusual characters. The audience loved the comedy that Mrs McMorrow included and produced, 1 group of yr 6’s wrote a brilliant story and setting to the Christmas production. Mrs McMorrow had a little something to say to all the pupils and teachers in Broadstone Hall.
“I thought the children did unbelievably well and are a great example for Broadstone hall school, I am so proud of them and it just goes to show that they are an excellent reflection of how hard they all work.”

We all had an extremely important part in the play and Mrs Morrow suited us all with the right characters. The costumes looked amazing and most of them were provided by the funds raised by the drama club.

The songs we sung were amazingly choreographed by Mrs McMorrow. Mr Langley and Mr Lee were a fantastic helping hand playing the instruments that were needed to finish off the hymns and songs.

The experience was amazing as quite a lot of us were new to the whole Christmas production and enjoyed every minute of it. Every year the performance gets better and better, and probably everyone would say that this year was the best yet! Instead of the traditional Christmas scenes every year we put a twist to are performance and this year we rehearsed a play of reality life of a family at Christmas.

Behind the stage nerves were building rapidly as the children waited for there time in the spotlight. The highlight of the night, what everybody was talking about was Joshua Battersby and his solo, The Gift. After having make-up and clothes the transformation from Joshua was now to Sky. As all of the actors and singers waited in Mr Langley’s classroom for the beginning of the production the selection of different people and colours were outstanding. Also the choir sung their hearts out on the night.

We had a brilliant time practising and performing the Christmas production but unfortunately there will be no summer performance this year as Mrs McMorrow will not be able to teach.

New Developments
You may have noticed that we have a brand new green tarmac area around the tyres, which has replaced the rotten, muddy bark that we used to have. You may remember the tyres getting so muddy that unfortunately they had to be banned for a couple of days as there were so many accidents. Well, hopefully, this will not happen as regularly as before! Also, the green is much prettier than the old ugly bark, but it is now also a skidding park! (Let’s hope nobody has a day trip in hospital this year then!)

We have also recently been granted the privilege to have a brand new climbing frame in the corner of our playground. To stop it being too chaotic,   the children have to take turns for their day on the climbing frame. When their teacher is on duty, the teacher’s class have the privilege of the climbing frame all to themselves. The routine, up to now, has run very smoothly and will hopefully continue to as well. Unfortunately, some children have had some accidents involving the climbing frame, but there’s nothing to worry about.

New Sign

If you come to school using the reception as your entrance you may have noticed the new sign in the staff car park. This sign is to keep us as children safe and to prevent the staff car park from overflowing, this also helps stop accidents happening. So if you do come in to school that way, please follow the rule.

Year 6 Alton Towers Visit

Courtesy of Mr Mac, Ellis Alger and the BBC, year 6 and a couple of lucky parents (plus the teachers) went to Alton Towers on Friday the 17th of October. The weather there was brilliant and people had a great time. Unfortunately, a few kids got to the front of the Nemesis and Oblivion queues and chickened out and then later on, disaster struck! Air and Rita Queen of Speed broke down and amongst the victims of the misfortune were Broadstone pupils, including George Rogers and Aimee Davies. When interviewed, George said on Air: ‘I felt gutted. I thought I was going to come down eventually, but I knew it was going to be a long time. The Alton Towers staff said it was going to be fine. The ride started but then got stuck again at the top.’ Obviously, George was not frightened by this experience!
In truth, everyone loved this visit and lots and lots of thanks to Ellis, Mr McAlpine, and CBBC!

Recently fallen out with a friend and want to resolve it?
Resolve it here

Falling out with your friends isn’t very nice, so take our advice and work it out. If they are making a gang, ask them if you can talk to them in private, if they say no, they may not be able to stick up for themselves without their gang. Try to stay calm and don’t retaliate to anything mean or harmful that they do. Try to smile and stay positive, the main thing not to do is to call names or say bad words. If your friends are falling out you must not get into a gang or take sides, just stay out of it and don’t get involved.

If you are being bullied, tell your teacher straight away and do not listen to any names they call you, just carry on normally and ignore them, remember that sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you. Even if they threaten you about telling the teacher, do it anyway. The teacher will put a stop to it and maybe do a circle time about it. If they are bullying you about your skin colour tell the teacher or a playtime/dinnertime helper immediately and make sure that it is sorted out.

Sport
We have some sport stars in our school, take a look!

After school clubs!!!
We have a load of different clubs after school, do you take part in any of these?
There is baking club, Netball, Gymnastics and Friday club.

Do you take part in any of these dinner time activities?
Keep fit, ICT Club, choir, Cheer leading and cross country.

Keep Fit
Keep fit is run by Mrs Connolly; it’s a thirty minute work out, first a warm up, then a stretch and after that, a good dance for the rest of the lesson. So why not have a go? If you don’t like it, it doesn’t matter; at least you had a go.

Cross Country
Cross country is run by Mr McAlpine. Do you remember Joe Albiston? He won two races with no effort at all, so if you go you may become as fast as him.

Netball
Netball is run by Miss Dilger on Tuesdays after school. If you play, you could possibly got on the team and play against other teams.

Gymnastics
Gymnastics is run by Miss Timmons. If you go regularly enough, you might become fit, and you might (if you’re good) get badges when you have done certain things.

Friday Club
Friday Club is run by Stewart and a few other sport coaches, its good fun and you’ll learn new sports, so after the holidays, have a go!

So try and have a go at these clubs and catch up on the latest news on the next term newspaper.

Art Classes
If you haven’t noticed already, some children in your class may have left the classroom on a Thursday morning. The children who have left the classroom have been having a special art class with an art teacher called Miss Shake, who you may have seen around school. The children have been working on a topic about Andy Warhol, a famous pop art artist, and are making their own picture of themselves in an Andy Warhol style, and the pictures will be hung in the library before parents evening. You are all welcome once the display is up, to go and have a look! Also, they will be hung in the dining room afterwards.
